What is sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to treat malformations of blood vessels. This is most often required for varicose (or varicose) veins, telangiectasias and hemorrhoids. about sclerotherapy treatment can be found here.

Sclerotherapy consists of injecting an abnormal fluid into the veins, which destroys the affected vessel, facilitates the reabsorption of fibrosis, followed by visual disappearance of the fluid; it can be injected at room temperature, mixed with air, or used at approximately -40 °C (cryosclerotherapy). This latter procedure is extremely effective, since the cooled liquid injected enhances the breaking action of the vessel being treated.

Sclerotherapy can be performed, depending on the type of pathological vein, with different inclinations:

  1. Simple sclerotherapy, also known as vision modality, involves injecting fluid into the abnormal vessel through a very thin needle.

Augmented reality sclerotherapy is characterized by the use of tools aimed at enhancing the visibility of even those veins that would apparently not be visible with conventional visual inspection.

Ecosclerosis - thanks to the use of an ultrasound system, it guarantees greater safety and effectiveness in the sclerotherapeutic treatment of veins that are not directly accessible from the skin, but are located deeper in the tissues.
Optimal results are achieved by using the most appropriate technique and material to treat the pathological vein. Subsequent elastic compression is not always indicated, i.e. the action exerted by elastic stockings, which, when worn after surgery, facilitate the emptying of the veins.

What are the indications for sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is, for example, very useful in treating capillaries, actually reducing symptoms, improving aesthetic appearance and can be repeated over time. However, for reticular varicose veins, in most cases a combination of sclerotherapy and minimally invasive surgery is recommended.
