It is an earthy, volatile substance that changes depending on the burning substance. All varieties of soot, due to their earthiness, are dried; they have a certain fiery quality.
Choice.
The soot from kitran is the strongest; then comes soot from fresh zift, then soot from liquid styrax, then from myrrh, then from incense and, finally, soot from terebinth. It seems that oil soot is stronger than all others.
Actions and properties.
Soot is a rarefied earthy substance; it causes ripening and resolves.
Organs of the eye.
Frankincense soot, as well as terebinth soot, are included in medicines for ulcers in the eye. They prevent the growth of eyelashes, inflammation of the edges of the eyelids, corrosion, leakage of fluids that is not accompanied by inflammation, and ulcers in the corners of the eye.
