Essence.
This is a type of wormwood, slightly hot and pungent. The smaller variety of Dubrovnik is sharper and more bitter. These are stems and flowers covered with fluff; the flowers are white, with a yellow tint, on stems up to a span long and filled with seeds; their top looks like a ball and there are something like white hairs in them; Their smell is heavy, slightly aromatic.
The larger variety has a weaker effect; it is also bitter and slightly caustic. The mountain variety is small.
Nature.
Small Dubrovnik is hot to the third degree, dry to the second, and large Dubrovnik is hot and dry to the second.
Actions and properties.
This medicine is an opening and loosening medicine, especially the small kind, which opens all internal blockages.
Wounds and ulcers.
Fresh Dubrovnik, especially large ones, heals fresh wounds, and dry ones heal malignant ulcers, especially small and dried ones.
Organs of the head.
Dubrovnik causes headaches.
Nutritional organs.
Dubrovnik vinegar is a good ointment for swelling or hardening of the spleen. It is harmful to the stomach, but helps against black jaundice, especially a decoction of its variety, and is useful for dropsy. But, in general, it is bad for the stomach.
Eruption organs.
Dubrovnik drives urine and menstruation and relaxes. It helps a lot from “pumpkin seeds”.
Fevers.
Helps against chronic fevers.
Poisons.
Dubrovnik is useful against scorpion bites, and a decoction of large Dubrovnik is useful against bites of all sorts of reptiles. They fumigate it or spread it under the bed and it drives away all the reptiles.
Substitutes.
As a worm expellant, diuretic and menstrual inducer, it is replaced with the same amount of bark of fresh pomegranate branches and two-thirds by weight of the bark of Ceylon cinnamon branches.
