Essence.
Dioscorides says that this plant grows on the shores of the sea, in those places that are flooded by the rising sea, and that it does not grow in the depths of the water, but at the same time and not far from it. Its leaves are similar to those of atatis, but thicker, the stem is about a span long and forked at the top. They say that the flowers of this plant change color three times during the day: in the morning they are white, at noon they are almost purple, and in the evening they are bright red. Its roots are white, with a pleasant smell; if you taste them, they warm the tongue.
