Foundations without oils and silicones

Every day, girls all over the world apply foundation to even out their shade and disguise possible imperfections on their face. Since this product is in constant contact with the skin, it is important that it is as safe as possible and does not contain harmful components in its composition. A foundation without silicones and parabens will be the best option for use every day.

What is silicone used for?

The foundation performs many functions and gives the face a beautiful, healthy and fresh look. Many manufacturers of cosmetic products add silicone and other harmful components to the composition, which can contribute to the appearance of blemishes on the skin.

This ingredient performs the following functions:

  1. improves consistency;
  2. facilitates the process of application and distribution;
  3. softens the skin;
  4. protects against the harmful effects of external factors with the help of a film formed on the surface;
  5. gives it a silky and velvety feel;
  6. cosmetics become waterproof;
  7. smoothes out existing wrinkles and creases.

Silicone, which is found in cosmetic products in small quantities, will not harm normal skin. However, if you have a dry, oily or combination type, you should avoid using such products. Foundation without silicones will not clog pores and will not aggravate the condition of problematic skin.

Silicones and parabens are chemical components that can aggravate skin conditions. They can cause itching, irritation, redness and a severe allergic reaction. Constant use causes product residues to clog into the pores and inflammation or blackheads may occur.

Natural foundation without silicones does not create a film on the face, which can adversely affect the health of the skin. Bacteria can develop under such a film, and the risk of an allergic reaction or inflammation increases several times. Silicone perfectly smoothes the surface of the skin, but this is only a visible effect, while cosmetics without harmful components can improve its condition.

List of the best products

The cosmetic market offers a huge number of foundations without silicones. This helps girls easily choose the right product.

The only disadvantages of Kiehl's silicone-free foundation are its specific smell, which can cause discomfort during use, and its rather high cost. Conclusion

Foundation without silicones and other harmful components is preferred by most girls and professional makeup artists around the world. Thanks to its natural composition, high quality, performance of all declared functions and safety, it is in great demand. Cosmetic companies produce organic foundations that improve the condition of the skin, do not cause allergic reactions and take excellent care of it throughout the day.

Each skin type has its own foundation. Without this cosmetic product it is difficult to achieve a perfect, even skin tone, so you need to choose your own product. Foundations for oily skin should not contain any oils or olein. These components have a detrimental effect on the condition of the skin with increased oil content: they clog pores, activate the sebaceous glands, and contribute to the appearance of acne and inflammation. This cosmetic product must contain moisturizing and nutritional components that normalize the functioning of the sebaceous glands, regulate sebum secretion, remove excess sebum and nourish, and maintain the moisture balance between the fat layer and cells.

When choosing a foundation, you should pay attention to non-comedogenic and mattifying gel-like textures. The foundation should also have a dense consistency. It will help to thoroughly hide all imperfections.

There is a difference between a thick mixture and a dense consistency. In the first case, there will be a “mask effect” on the face, which looks ugly and artificial.

For more mature girls whose skin is prone to aging, you need to choose foundations with a rejuvenating or lifting effect. Oily skin types lose their elasticity very quickly. Therefore, a concealer that rejuvenates cells and artificially tightens the skin, and maintains the effect for a long period of time, is a useful and necessary thing. At the moment, cosmetologists offer many different types of foundation. For example, moisturizing and nourishing products with a lifting effect, with a dense texture that “covers” all imperfections, mattifying and toning. With this choice, every owner of an oily face will be able to choose the most suitable cosmetic product.

But even with such a variety, girls with problematic oily skin still find it difficult to choose a really good concealer that takes into account all the features of oily epidermis. However, if you study all the problems and components that solve them, learn about popular and inexpensive brands and the effect of each on a certain skin type, you can significantly speed up this process. For women over forty years old, cosmetologists and dermatologists advise choosing light fluids with a masking effect.

The older the girl, the lighter the texture of concealing cosmetics should be. On the contrary, this rule does not work!

Features of applying foundation

  1. To prevent the “mask effect” and the foundation simply removes all imperfections from the face, it is necessary to apply it in a thin layer. If necessary, apply another layer. Several thin layers are better than one large one.
  2. It is better to apply the product with a sponge or brush, but, as a last resort, you can use a cotton pad or your fingertips.
  3. Be sure to blend evenly foundation so that there are no noticeable transitions or visible layers.
  4. You need to choose a product strictly according to your skin type and natural complexion.
  5. For proper and beautiful application, you need to start from the chin., and, moving to the top, mask the cheeks, cheekbones, and last but not least, the forehead.
  6. Testing your foundation on your wrist is not a good idea. The tone of the face and skin in this area may not match.
  7. If a mistake has already occurred with the choice of tone, you need to come to the store and choose a foundation of a different tone, but of the same series and manufacturer. Before application, they can be mixed to obtain the closest possible tone.
  8. Before applying foundation, you should cleanse and moisturize your skin.
  9. You can also use powder with a matting effect, tonic or makeup base to match the face.
  10. You can use foundation only after the makeup base, toner or day cream has been completely absorbed.
  11. If the foundation is liquid, then it is better to apply it using a dampened sponge.. This will hide imperfections while giving your skin a natural look.
  12. If your skin is prone to rashes and irritations, you should choose a foundation without fragrance., alcohol, nanoparticles, bismuth chloroxide, artificial dyes, silicones, fragrances and more.
  13. For oily skin types, it is better to choose foundations from the mineral series. Such cosmetics remove excess fat and do not clog pores. The skin “breathes” and does not dry out.

Disadvantages of mattifying agents

  1. Due to the abundant secretion of sebum – you cannot correct your makeup with powder during the day if foundation is applied to your skin. Dust, dirt, powder particles, sweat, sebum secretion and foundation clog pores and lead to open comedones, profuse acne, skin diseases and inflammation. If you nail it all down with powder, the effect will be even worse. To get rid of oily shine on your face, it is better to blot excess oil with special napkins or paper.
  2. It is not recommended to use foundation before the age of twenty. This is due to the fact that there is still a sufficient amount of collagen in the cells, and it itself rejuvenates the cells well. When applying cosmetics, the skin does not “breathe” and thus ages.

How to choose

Choosing a foundation is a rather serious and long process. To ensure that the components in the composition do not spoil or harm the skin, you need to carefully and meticulously study the packaging, composition, and how the ingredients in the foundation affect the skin. To speed up this process, below is how to choose the right foundation.

What do the labels on the packaging say?

When choosing a foundation, you need to carefully study the description on the packaging.

  1. If this text contains the phrase "won't clog pores" - this means that this cosmetics does not clog pores, the skin does not dry out and “breathes”.
  2. Phrase "non-comedogenic" – translated “without comedones.” This means that this product does not contribute to the appearance of rashes, acne, comedones and other things.
  3. Water-based foundation, which does not contain fats and oils, is indicated by the inscription "oil free".
  4. There are some cosmetics that contain allergens. They adversely affect any skin type, and especially oily epidermis. Therefore, if the package says “bismuth oxycholor >

High-quality cosmetics are made on a mineral basis. They do not contain preservatives, dyes, flavors, fragrances and other things that have a bad effect on the condition of the epidermis. After using this product, no negative consequences arise. Find out how to choose the right foundation for your face here.

If such a product also contains antibacterial substances, this is only a big plus.

What should a medicinal foundation contain?

In order for foundation not only to mask imperfections, but also to treat them, you need to choose it correctly. To do this, you need to check whether the product meets the following requirements:

  1. Has an antibacterial effect.
  2. Hypoallergenic.
  3. The composition contains jojoba, peach, and almond oils - this moisturizes and nourishes the skin.
  4. It has a mattifying effect that lasts a long time.
  5. Protects against environmental influences and ultraviolet rays.
  6. It contains decoctions of medicinal flowers and herbs.

Ingredients that should not be in a medicated foundation:

  1. talc;
  2. silicones;
  3. parabens.

Modern cosmetology produces few products that are completely free of talc. Therefore, it is worth choosing those that have the least amount of it.

By color and texture

The color should be as close as possible to the natural complexion. If you don’t get the right shade, you can mix several from the same series and use it. The texture should preferably be lighter. Oily or dense skin can create a “mask effect”, which looks unsightly and the skin itself does not “breathe”.

Video

This video provides a review of the top 6 foundations for oily skin.

Are silicones safe to use in foundations? How to choose a tone for your skin type and color? How do Korean BB creams differ from European ones? BeautyHack asked makeup artists, a dermatologist, and a cosmetic chemist to answer the most important questions about foundation.

1. How to choose foundations for young and mature skin?

First of all, look at its condition. And aging skin may have “young” problems: acne or post-acne, for example. In this case, Vichy Dermablend foundation is suitable for both young and mature skin - it masks such imperfections better than anyone else.

For aging skin without visible blemishes, choose lighter textures with a pronounced moisturizing effect - this is important, as the skin becomes thinner over time.

Foundations with an anti-age effect are good. For example, La Mer Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation. Before using long-lasting foundation, do not forget to moisturize your skin.

It’s great that in many products you can adjust the coverage density: for aging skin, choose a lighter one, for young skin, choose a denser one, if it requires it. A great example of such a versatile foundation is Natura Radiant Longwear Foundation from Nars. It also contains caring components: raspberry, apple and watermelon extracts, which improve skin texture with regular use. Another example of a foundation whose coverage can be adjusted is Bobbi Brown Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation SPF 15.

2. How to choose a foundation for your skin type?

Foundation should not tighten the skin. If this happens, then you have chosen the wrong product. Focus on the condition of your skin and how you feel – skin with the “right” foundation should look radiant!

I know that many girls find it difficult to determine their skin type. I'll tell you about the most important features. Dry skin is close to ideal, translucent, with a predominant pink and white undertone. It needs a lot of nutrients, is prone to redness (capillaries are visible), is tight and can peel, often with pale pink spots on the cheeks.

Oily skin tends to have a yellowish tint and is shiny. It requires thorough cleansing and is prone to inflammation, acne and enlarged pores.

3. How to choose foundation for oily skin? Many girls develop an oily sheen after using any tone.

You need to choose a tone, primer or moisturizer with a mattifying effect. The foundation itself should not be shiny - otherwise the matte effect of any primer will disappear. I often use the Prep+Prime Skin Refined Zone mattifying emulsion from M.A.C.

I apply it not under the tone, but on top - with a beauty blender - using tapping movements.

4. How to choose a tone to match your skin color?

Test the shade on an area near your jawline to see how the tone matches the skin tone on your neck and décolleté.

Apply 2-3 shades. If the tone goes into gray, the shade is too light for you, if it goes into yellow, it’s too dark. For girls with very pale skin, I always keep Nars Siberia Velvet Matte Foundation in the shade Light 1 in my makeup artist's case. Also pay attention to Korean BB creams - they usually have very light shades.

5. Does the tone application pattern vary depending on skin type?

The application pattern does not change. If you are sure of the shade, start applying the foundation from any place; if you are not sure, start from the area along the jaw line.

6. How to apply foundation correctly?

There is an opinion that applying the product with your fingers is good, because thanks to the warmth of your hands, it is better distributed over the skin and a more even coating is obtained. But I'm all about makeup tools! I love synthetic and natural fluffy brushes. I know artists who, on the contrary, choose flat brushes, but, in my opinion, they make the makeup more noticeable. Synthetic tools distribute the product well and ensure its economical consumption. The result is a thin and even coating! This is what all girls strive for!

At the finish line, I sometimes use a damp beauty blender - it removes any remaining product and makes the tone perfect!

7. What size should the brush be?

It should not be very large so that it is convenient for you to apply the tone in the corners of the eyes, under the nose, on the wings of the nose. But at the same time, I repeat, choose fluffy tools!

8. How to apply thick foundation?

I’ll tell you using the example of Double Wear from Estée Lauder. It's super long lasting and sets really quickly so you can't just do strokes and then blend it out. First, apply the product to the brush, blend it onto your hand or palette to remove excess and distribute evenly throughout the brush. Only then transfer it to the skin in small portions.

An important rule: it is better to add a second layer of foundation than to apply a lot at once and then try to remove it.

9. How to apply foundation so that it does not emphasize flaking?

I'll tell you my beauty hack.

If the skin is dehydrated, all products are more difficult to apply and can accentuate flaking. In this case, I use a damp beauty blender and place a drop of oil on it.

It allows the tool to evenly distribute the tone over the skin and improves glide.

The same scheme is good if you are applying a thick foundation, but want it to look weightless on the skin.

10. How do foundation cushions differ from classic foundations?

Cushion is a convenient, compact product that you can take with you everywhere - you don't need additional tools to apply it. Blot the puff and apply it to the skin, no need to rub the product - it will still turn out evenly. The porous texture of the puff allows you to use a small amount of tone, so it is impossible to overdo it with makeup.

Two important advantages of the cushion: it evens out the tone and leaves a beautiful glow. At the same time, even a person who has never dealt with foundation can handle the product.

Of course, if your skin is very problematic, then a cushion is unlikely to help you out, although it will cope with minor imperfections.

11. How to decipher the symbols on foundations?

Estée Lauder foundations have numbers and letters on them. That is, you can see, for example, the following designation: “1C1” or “1W2”. The first number is the shade number (light, medium and darker). The letter is the ratio of cold and warm undertones (C (“Cold”) – cold, W (Warm) – warm, N – neutral, sandy, suitable for most). The third number is an indicator of the intensity of the undertone (cold or warm). For example, C1 is slightly pink, C2 is more pink, C3 is clearly pink. W3 will have a yellowish undertone.

If you have pink skin, blood vessels are close together, and there are traces of acne, the pinkish tone will blend with the skin. It is better to choose warmer, natural shades to achieve a healthy skin color.

12. How to store foundation?

You can use the foundation for three years after opening. This is the official expiration date; there is no need to be afraid that something will happen to the product. Do not store the product in the heat or in the bathroom where there are constant temperature changes. It is better to choose a dry place, not in direct sunlight.

13. Do I need to select a brush for a specific foundation?

The size of the brush depends on the size of your facial features. The larger they are, the larger the brush should be. But here everything is very individual. It’s not for nothing that brands produce special brushes for applying tone. It happens that a specific tone can only be applied with the brush that was invented for it. It has a certain density of villi, cut shape, and volume. The fluffier the brush, the lighter the coverage. If you want a denser tone, take a denser brush.

14. How to avoid skin tone fading?

The tone may fade if you have not properly prepared your skin for makeup. There was a layer of fat and keratinized particles left on it; you used a base with one chemical formula, and applied the tone with a different formula. Another reason is that the skin is over-hydrated. This happens if you first apply moisturizer, then base and then a dense foundation on top.

To prevent your tone from slipping, cleanse your skin properly and prepare it for makeup: foam, toner, then a primer (suitable for your skin type) and tone.

15. How do Korean BB creams differ from European ones?

BB and CC creams differ from regular foundations in their low pigment content (10-30%). Foundations contain 70-90% pigment.

Korean BB creams are very thick and have strong coverage. European ones contain care components - in fact, these are tint creams. There are also CC creams (Color Correcting). They focus on pigment, which evens out the tone. Although such products are applied in a thin layer and also contain moisturizing and nourishing ingredients, in general they are lighter.

16. Do I need to apply a base for CC and BB creams?

No, these are independent products that are applied to skin wiped with mineral water or tonic. No bases are needed for them!

17. How to choose the shade of mineral powder?

20-30 minutes after application, mineral powder may oxidize on the skin and become a little darker. To choose the right powder tone, test it. Apply thermal water over the top (or another spray, Prep + Prime Fix+ from M.A.C will also work). This will instantly reveal the final shade of the powder.

If such a test is not possible, choose a product that is slightly lighter than your skin tone. Moreover, it is important to choose the right shade of powder. If you have golden skin tone, choose products that are golden-yellowish. If your skin has a pinkish tint, powders with red-pink pigments are suitable.

18. How to choose a concealer?

I advise you to use two products. One is to cover the blue-violet pigment. You can choose the right shade using a color wheel: find the shade on it that is most similar to the pigment of the defect, and see what color is opposite. This is exactly the pigment that should be in a concealer that suits you. The second concealer should be slightly lighter than your skin tone to brighten the area under the eyes and give a fresh look.

19. Is it possible to mix foundations from different brands? What about tone with face cream?

You can by first studying the composition. It is important that the products have the same base: for example, silicone or wax. If you are not a makeup artist, but want to mix tones, I advise you to use products from the same brand lines.

The same goes for skincare cream. The compositions should not “argue” with each other. Use light texture facial moisturizers.

20. Can good tone be cheap? What does the price depend on?

The cosmetics industry has a clear division into segments: mass market, middle market and luxury products. The lower the segment, the fewer natural ingredients. I recommend buying skin products in the luxury segment. But it is important to understand that the price here very much depends on the brand name. At the same time, you will be sure that 70% of the composition is high-quality (and possibly natural) ingredients.

If you do use tones from the mass and middle market, change them every few months to avoid addiction.

21. Can foundation creams have a caring effect? Due to what components?

Yes, if we are talking about high-quality foundations. They can not only disguise imperfections and even out skin tone, but also have properties such as moisturizing, nutrition, protection from ultraviolet rays, temperature changes and dust. Hyaluronic, lactic, stearic acids, algae extract moisturize the skin, give it tone and elasticity. Oil vitamins of various groups (A, B, C, E) increase local immunity and restore the skin. Algae extract and aloe restore the skin's water balance. And white clay is perfect for oily skin - it regulates the functioning of the sebaceous glands.

22. If there are rashes on the skin, will daily use of foundation harm it?

If you have problem skin, consult a dermatocosmetologist before using foundation. Moreover, feel free to take your foundation for a consultation so that the doctor can thoroughly understand the composition. Choose products without silicones with mattifying properties. They must contain white clay, starch or rice flour. There are now a lot of myths around silicones and many of them are fiction, but I advise girls with oily and problem skin to avoid foundations with these components.

23. What should be the SPF of a foundation for a city resident?

The degree of protection against UV rays varies from 2 to 100. The best option for a city resident is SPF 30. If the degree of protection is higher, then the foundation will be thicker, and not everyone will like this.

24. What is the function of silicones in foundations?

Silicones in the formulation either play the role of a high-quality organilleptic modifier (usually in skincare cosmetics) or “keep” the product on the face (in foundations, powders, blushes, eye shadows, makeup bases, lipsticks/lip glosses). Light silicones are responsible for the first function, heavy silicones, most often dimethicone, are responsible for the second.

Silicone helps to form a pleasant film on the skin, which will prevent it from losing moisture and maintain moisture for a sufficiently long period of time. In creams, many silicones also improve the texture and make it possible to easily distribute a fatty substance over the skin (this is how, for example, cyclopentasiloxane works).

26. If silicones have such positive characteristics, where do so many myths about their negative effects on the skin come from?

Most buyers associate silicone with a film that has only one function - it prevents the skin from breathing. However, modern silicones are capable of: prolonging moisture, protecting against aggressive environmental factors, improving the quality of application/distribution of the product, preparing the skin for makeup, etc.

But it is also wrong to say only about the advantages of silicones. Like any chemical product, it also has negative characteristics. For example, the impossibility of decomposition in the environment, partial difficulty in breathing of the skin when heavy forms of silicones are applied to it in very large quantities (usually they are contained only in makeup bases). All other decorative products containing heavy silicones in a lower percentage of the input - foundations, eye shadows, powders, blush - do not harm the skin even with daily use.

You need to understand that modern foundations are formulas with a high content of silicones. There is no other way to create a high-quality foundation.

27. But there are mineral foundation creams. How do they work?

Yes, there are such “green” remedies. There are two options to choose from. First: either the manufacturer hides the full composition, or you will not be able to apply the cream evenly and achieve a natural result. It will not be persistent and will not hide the problem.

Silicones are substances that have completely occupied the market for both decorative and skincare cosmetics.

28. What should a cream contain to perfectly hide redness and other imperfections?

There are not very many components: titanium dioxide, talc and rarely kaolin. Moreover, they should be at the beginning of the list, because in the middle or towards the end they will no longer perform their functions to the required extent.

Let me remind you that according to the INCI nomenclature of cosmetic ingredients, the components of the composition are arranged in order of decreasing percentage of input: from the largest to the smallest.

29. What components should not be in foundation?

Long chain parabens (such as butylparaben). They are banned in Europe: long-chain parabens have been scientifically proven to cause breast cancer.

Also, avoid facial products with mineral oil. As a product of oil refining, it provokes inflammation and has a comedic effect.

30. What components are responsible for a radiant finish?

If the product contains Mica (the famous mica), then the product will shine on the skin! Now both foundation creams and makeup bases contain sufficient amounts of it. Mica's portfolio for foundation product developers is limitless, with colors ranging from pale pink to dark brown. But it happens that the manufacturer promises incredible shine on the packaging, but there is nothing in the composition that could provide this shine. Therefore, it is still worth looking at the list of components.
