Ophthalmia Nuclear

Opaic form of glaucoma, characterized by diffuse characteristic bulging of the anterior parts of the iris and its membrane (on the sides of the pupil zone and along the pupillary edge), reminiscent of a visual field defect caused by nuclear atrophy of the optic nerve. Most often present in both eyes, bilateral nuclear ophthalmopia develops in 20% of patients with hypertension, rheumatic diseases, coronary heart disease, often in parallel with other eye pathologies. Ophthalmoscopically, the posterior segment of the retina is unchanged. The diagnosis is confirmed by x-ray. Treatment - diuretics, phenothiazine drugs, as a rule, have no effect. The prognosis for the development of vitreous detachment is unfavorable.
