Abscess Subareolar

A subareolar abscess is a purulent inflammation of the tissues located under the nipple-areolar complex of the mammary gland.

Reasons for development:

  1. Inflammation of the mammary gland ducts (ductectasia, lactostasis)
  2. Injury to the nipple-areolar area
  3. Mammary cancer

Symptoms:

  1. Pain in the nipple and areola area
  2. Skin redness
  3. Tissue swelling
  4. Increase in local temperature
  5. Lump under the nipple-areolar complex

Diagnostics:

  1. Physical examination of the mammary glands
  2. Mammography
  3. Ultrasound of the mammary glands
  4. Puncture of the formation with cytological examination

Treatment:

  1. Opening and draining the abscess
  2. Antibacterial therapy
  3. Novocaine blockades
  4. Physiotherapeutic treatment

Prevention:

  1. Maintaining hygiene rules
  2. Timely treatment of inflammatory diseases of the mammary gland
  3. Avoiding injuries to the nipple-areolar area
  4. Regular breast examination

Timely treatment of subareolar abscess is important to prevent the development of mastitis and other complications.
