Additive calcium: use, contraindications and side effects

Additiva calcium is a preparation containing the active substance calcium carbonate. It is used to treat various diseases associated with calcium deficiency in the body.

Manufacturers of calcium additives - NP Pharma (Poland). Dosage form - effervescent tablets in a dosage of 1.25 g.

Indications for use of calcium additives include hyperacidity of gastric juice and gastrointestinal diseases, osteoporosis, rickets, caries in children, osteomalacia, tetany, increased need for calcium (during pregnancy, lactation, rapid growth in children) and allergic reactions.

Contraindications to the use of calcium supplements include hypercalcemia (hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D overdose, bone metastases), multiple myeloma, sarcoidosis, severe renal failure, or severe hypercalciuria.

When using Calcium Additive, dyspeptic symptoms (epigastric pain, flatulence, diarrhea/constipation), secondary increased gastric secretion and hypercalcemia may occur. Possible interactions with other drugs should also be taken into account, for example, a decrease in the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, fluoride preparations and quinolone derivatives, as well as an increase in the arrhythmogenic effect of digoxin.

In case of an overdose of Calcium Additives, symptoms such as loss of appetite, thirst, nausea, constipation, lethargy, muscle and joint pain, and heart rhythm disturbances may occur. In such cases, it is necessary to perform gastric lavage, prescribe activated charcoal and carry out symptomatic therapy, including maintaining vital functions.

Special instructions for use of calcium additives include caution in nephrolithiasis. It should also be remembered that in large doses, especially against the background of a milk diet, hypercalcemia or milk-alkali syndrome may occur, manifested by headache, weakness, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, thirst, kidney damage and polyuria.

In conclusion, Calcium Additive is an effective remedy for the treatment and prevention of various diseases associated with calcium deficiency in the body. However, before use, you should familiarize yourself with contraindications and possible side effects, and also consult your doctor. The use of calcium additives should be individualized and depend on the specific situation and condition of the patient.
