The disease is classified as a tumor-like disease.

Distributed mainly in the Mediterranean countries (Egypt, Morocco) and North Africa (Tunisia), but also found in other regions of the world. In most cases, the symptoms are not clearly expressed, so the disease is often diagnosed by chance.

The largest number of patients are middle-aged people (about 50 years old). The asymptomatic form of the disease usually begins to manifest itself for the first time as secondary complications develop, leading to atrophy of the salivary glands.
