Adiuretin SD: description of the drug and its use

Adiuretin SD is a drug belonging to the group of drugs based on hormones of the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland. The active substance of the drug is desmopressin. Adiuretin SD is available in the form of an injection solution of 4 mcg and nasal drops of 0.1 mg/ml.

The drug is produced by several companies from the Czech Republic: Lečiva jsc, Spofa Praha and Ferring Artsneimittel GmbH. The international name of desmopressin is Desmopressin. Adiuretin SD is also known under synonyms: Adiuretin, Adiuretin-SD, Minirin, Emosint.

Indications for the use of Adiuretin SD include diabetes insipidus, acute polyuria, polydipsia after surgery in the pituitary gland, primary bedwetting (for intranasal use only), as well as hemophilia A, von Willebrand disease (except type IIb) and nocturia (for intravenous administration).

Contraindications to the use of Adiuretin SD include hypersensitivity, anuria, fluid retention of various etiologies, congenital or psychogenic polydipsia, plasma hypoosmolarity, circulatory failure and the need for diuretic therapy. For intravenous administration, the drug is contraindicated in unstable angina, von Willebrand disease type IIb and pregnancy.

When using Adiuretin SD, side effects are possible, such as transient headache, nausea, cramping abdominal pain, dysalgomenorrhea, moderate arterial hypertension, hot flashes, moderate decrease in blood pressure, compensatory tachycardia (with intravenous administration), allergic reactions, swelling, local hyperemia and pain at the injection site.

Adiuretin SD may also enhance the effect of vasopressor drugs. Data on overdose are not provided.

When using Adiuretin SD, fluid intake should be limited to reduce the risk of water intoxication and hyponatremia (especially in children, adolescents and the elderly).

Thus, Adiuretin SD is a drug used to treat various diseases associated with disorders of the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland. The drug has a number of contraindications and side effects, so its use should only be carried out as prescribed by a doctor and with strict adherence to the dosage and recommendations for use.
