Akineton is an antiparkinsonian drug with anticholinergic effects.

International name: biperiden.

Synonyms: Akineton SR.

Dosage forms: tablets 2 mg, solution for injection 5 mg/ml, solution for injection 5 mg.

Composition: active substance - biperiden.

Indications for use: Parkinson's syndrome, extrapyramidal disorders, dyskinesia, akinesia when treated with antipsychotics and other drugs.

Contraindications: angle-closure glaucoma, megacolon, prostatic hypertrophy, gastrointestinal obstruction, tachyarrhythmias, pregnancy, lactation.

Side effects: impaired accommodation, fatigue, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, memory impairment, hallucinations, dry mouth, dyspeptic disorders, tachycardia, low blood pressure, drug dependence.

Interaction: quinidine increases the anticholinergic effect, levodopa - the risk of developing dyskinesia. Enhances the effects of anticholinergics, antihistamines, antiparkinsonian and anticonvulsants, weakens the effects of metoclopramide. Incompatible with alcohol.

Overdose: symptoms - pronounced anticholinergic effects. Treatment is symptomatic. Cholinesterase inhibitors may be used.

Special instructions: prescribe with caution for cerebral atherosclerosis (older age), for patients with epilepsy (take into account the possibility of developing convulsive syndrome). Stop treatment gradually (high risk of withdrawal). Patients should refrain from potentially hazardous activities that require rapid mental and motor reactions.
