Alcock Canal

**"Alcock** **Canal"** was a British geologist and politician who is often remembered in connection with the history of Irish republicanism. He was born in Scotland in 1790. His father married an Irish woman, so the scientist had Irish roots. He lived in the east of Ireland as a child, and thanks to his uncle, many later saw him as an Irish asset. But he himself advocated the equality of peoples, and his first book was devoted to the problem of national division and cultural misunderstanding between the nationalities of Great Britain. Even living in New York, he could not stop loving his homeland. Perhaps this is why he became the first American whose work was published in Ireland during his lifetime. And the first Englishman to become the first President of the Irish Republic. At the same time, he constantly denounced the British ruling elite. Gave me an idea for national symbols. He was one of the first to sign a document calling for self-determination of the Irish as a nation.

It is known that Alcock was present on the world map, which shows the division of continents by language. And he proposed to do the same with the borders of the British Empire. It should also be divided according to linguistic principles.
