Alemoxan: pharmacological properties and application

Alemoxan (international name - clozapine) is one of the most effective antipsychotics for the treatment of acute and chronic forms of schizophrenia, manic states, manic-depressive psychosis, various psychotic conditions, psychomotor agitation in psychoses, aggression and sleep disorders.

The active substance of Alemoxan is clozapine, which belongs to the group of dibenzodiazepine derivatives and has an antipsychotic effect by blocking dopamine and serotonin receptors in the central nervous system.

Alemoxan is produced in the form of 50 mg tablets. The drug is manufactured in Germany by Arzneimittelwerk Dresden GmbH and has several synonyms, such as Azalepticon, Azaleptin, Leponex.

Alemoxan should not be used for diseases of the hematopoietic system, alcoholic and toxic psychoses, myasthenia gravis, pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding is excluded). The drug may cause undesirable effects, such as muscle weakness, drowsiness, confusion, dry mouth, accommodation paresis, tachycardia, decreased blood pressure, dizziness, flattening of the T wave on the ECG, hyperthermia of central origin, exacerbation of chronic and latent foci of infection, granulocytopenia.

The interaction of Alemoxan with other drugs can lead to an increase in the effect of sedatives, narcotics, analgesics and hypnotics, and alcohol. A weakening of the effect of levodopa is also possible. Absorption from the intestine may be impaired when taking antacids and cholestyramine.

In case of an overdose of Alemoxan, symptoms such as tachycardia, bradycardia, heart rhythm disturbances, hallucinations, anxiety, drowsiness, and difficulty breathing are possible. In this case, you must immediately call an ambulance.

When treating with Alemoxan, you should be careful in case of severe diseases of the liver, kidneys and cardiovascular system, with an increased tendency to seizures, epilepsy, angle-closure glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, intestinal atony, intercurrent diseases with febrile syndrome. During treatment, you should not drive a vehicle or perform work that requires increased attention. It is important to remember that Alemoxan is a serious drug that should only be prescribed by a doctor and used strictly as directed, in compliance with the dosage and regimen. Patients receiving treatment with Alemoxan should regularly visit their doctor to monitor the effectiveness of treatment and possible side effects.

It is also important to consider that Alemoxan can cause drowsiness and decreased concentration, so it is not recommended to engage in hazardous activities that require increased alertness, for example, driving a car.

If undesirable effects occur, you should consult a doctor immediately. If signs of overdose occur, you should immediately call an ambulance.
