Amitriptyline hydrochloride is an antidepressant that belongs to the group of non-selective neuronal uptake inhibitors. It is a derivative of the tricyclic class of antidepressants and is used to treat a variety of psychiatric and neurological disorders.

Amitriptyline hydrochloride is manufactured by Plantex Chemicals B.V. in the Netherlands and is sold under various trade names, including Amizol, Amineurin, Amiptyline, Amiton, Amitriptyline Lechiva, Amitriptyline Nycomed, Amitriptyline-Akos, Amitriptyline-Grindeks, Amitriptyline-LENS, Amitriptyline-Slovakofarma, Amitriptyline-Ferein, Apo-Amitriptyline, Vero- Amitriptyline and Damilena malei.

Amitriptyline hydrochloride is presented in the form of a substance that contains the active substance - amitriptyline. It is used to treat depression, depressive syndrome, schizophrenic psychoses, anxiety-depressive conditions of various origins, mixed emotional disorders, behavioral disorders, psychogenic anorexia, nocturnal enuresis (auxiliary treatment) and severe neurogenic pain.

However, Amitriptyline hydrochloride has certain contraindications that should be taken into account before prescribing it. Hypersensitivity, glaucoma, epilepsy, prostatic hyperplasia, bladder atony, paralytic ileus, history of myocardial infarction, use of MAO inhibitors in the previous 2 weeks, pregnancy, lactation and childhood (under 6 years) are contraindications for use.

When using Amitriptyline hydrochloride, side effects may occur, including blockade of peripheral M-cholinergic receptors, dry mouth, urinary retention, constipation, blurred vision, accommodation, increased sweating, tachycardia, orthostat.
