Amniotomy

Amniotomy is a surgical procedure performed to facilitate childbirth. It involves cutting the amniotic membrane, which protects the fetus and ensures its nutrition and breathing.

Amniotomy can be performed both late in pregnancy and early. In the first case, it is carried out to prepare the cervix for childbirth, and in the second, to speed up the birth process.

To perform an amniotomy, special instruments are used - amniotomes. They are small needles that are inserted into the amniotic sac and rupture it. After this, the amniotic fluid leaves and the birth process begins.

After amniotomy, certain recommendations must be followed to avoid complications. For example, you should avoid physical activity, take a hot bath, or have sex until the wound is completely healed.

In general, amniotomy is a safe procedure that can speed up the birth process and protect the fetus from possible complications. However, before carrying out this procedure, you must consult your doctor and make sure it is necessary.
