Apo-Fluoxetine is an antidepressant from the group of selective neuronal uptake inhibitors. The active ingredient is Fluoxetine, which is available in the form of capsules of 10 mg and 20 mg. The drug is produced in Canada by Apotex Inc., Apotex/Vector-Medica, Apotex/Pharmavid, and Vector-Pharm in Russia.

Indications for the use of Apo-Fluoxetine include depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bulimia, anorexia and alcoholism.

Contraindications to the use of Apo-Fluoxetine include hypersensitivity to Fluoxetine, use of MAO inhibitors, liver and kidney failure, epilepsy, history of seizures, suicidality, diabetes mellitus, pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Various side effects may occur when using Apo-Fluoxetine, including anxiety, nervousness, lethargy, nausea, sleep disturbance, headache, dizziness, tremor, seizures, decreased libido, anorexia, diarrhea, rash, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, urticaria, which is often accompanied by systemic disorders of the lungs, kidneys or liver, vasculitis.

The interaction of Apo-Fluoxetine with MAO inhibitors and tryptophan can lead to serious side effects. Also, when using Apo-Fluoxetine, the concentration of lithium in the blood may change.

An overdose of Apo-Fluoxetine may cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, central nervous system stimulation, hypomania, and convulsions. Treatment includes induction of vomiting or gastric lavage, administration of activated charcoal and symptomatic therapy.

With caution, the use of Apo-Fluoxetine is recommended for cardiovascular diseases, severe renal and liver failure. Also, it is necessary to use the drug with caution to persons who are engaged in activities that require increased attention. The period between taking MAO inhibitors and starting to take Apo-Fluoxetine should be at least 2 weeks, and between stopping Apo-Fluoxetine and taking M inhibitors
