John Barcroft was a 19th-century English physiologist who worked in the fields of general and experimental psychology, the physiology of sensory processes, and psychophysiology.

In 1903, together with his colleagues, Barcroft developed a test technique to assess time perception.

During his scientific career, Barcroft conducted several thousand experiments and studies; Through his work, he is considered one of the founders of cognitive psychology and a leading figure in the development of psychodynamic psychology.
