Aronson Wednesday

Aronson, Wednesday (A. Aronson), (n. Aronson, 1865-1919), German bacteriologist.

Born in Berlin on September 23, 1865. He studied medicine at the universities of Berlin, Vienna, Zurich and Munich (since 1885). In 1890–92 he worked in Munich, then in Vienna (from 1901), where he created a school of bacteriologists. From 1914 to 17, director of the Institute of Bacteriology and Hygiene in Leipzig. Died in Berlin on May 10, 1919.

In 1894, A. proposed a medium for the cultivation of microorganisms, named after him. In this medium, which is gelatin with the addition of agar-agar, glycerin and a small amount of salts, microorganisms are better preserved than in other media. A. medium is widely used in microbiology for the cultivation of bacteria, as well as for storing museum cultures.
