Artery Ankle Posterior Medial

The posterior medial ankle artery (lat. a. malleolaris posterior medialis) is a small artery of the lower leg. It arises from the posterior tibial artery at approximately the level of the middle of the leg and runs downward in the subcutaneous tissue behind the medial malleolus. The posterior medial ankle artery supplies the skin and subcutaneous tissue of the medial ankle area, as well as the muscle tendons in this area. Sometimes the posterior medial malleolar artery can arise directly from the popliteal artery.
