Azitrox: description, application and side effects

Azitrox is an antibiotic belonging to the group of macrolides and azalides. It contains the active substance - azithromycin, and is intended for the treatment of infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, ENT organs, genitourinary system, skin and soft tissues, as well as the chronic stage of erythema migrans (Lyme disease).

Contraindications to the use of Azitrox include hypersensitivity to macrolides, severe liver dysfunction, pregnancy and lactation. Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, diarrhea, melena, cholestatic jaundice, chest pain, palpitations, weakness, drowsiness, headache, dizziness, nephritis, vaginitis, candidiasis, neutropenia or neutrophilia, pseudomembranous colitis , photosensitivity, rash, angioedema, eosinophilia. The interaction of Azitrox with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium hydroxide may reduce absorption and maximum concentration of the drug. In case of severe dysfunction of the liver, kidneys and cardiac arrhythmias, Azitrox should be used with caution. After discontinuation of treatment, hypersensitivity reactions may persist in some patients, which requires specific therapy under medical supervision.
