Blackwater fever

Blackwater fever. This disease was noticed at a time when there were epidemics of diphtheria and measles; it spread most of all in the winter months, the flu period. The signs of the disease were very pronounced: a red throat, enlarged tonsils, and an enlarged spleen. Treatment included bloodletting and teething. Antibiotics were also used.
