Bricanil

Bricanil: instructions for use, indications and contraindications

Bricanil, also known as terbutaline, is a beta-agonist and is used as a bronchodilator. It dilates the bronchi and reduces airway resistance, which makes breathing easier and improves oxygen supply to the body. In this article we will look at instructions for use, indications and contraindications, side effects and special instructions for the use of Bricanil.

Manufacturers

Bricanil is produced by three companies: Astra (Sweden), Egis Pharmaceutical Plant (Hungary) and Eczacibasi (Turkey).

Release forms

Bricanil is available in a variety of dosage forms, including tablets, injection solution and metered dose aerosol. The dosage of the drug may vary depending on the dosage form. For example, the tablets contain 2.5 mg of terbutaline, and the metered aerosol contains 0.25 mg of terbutaline.

Indications for use

Bricanil is used to treat various diseases associated with the respiratory tract, such as bronchial asthma, status asthmaticus, obstructive bronchitis and emphysema. It may also be used to treat acute heart failure, fibrous cystitis, primary dysmenorrhea, threatened preterm labor, and fetal distress syndrome.

Contraindications

Bricanil should not be taken by patients with hypersensitivity to terbutaline, pregnant women (as a bronchodilator), during lactation and children under 12 years of age.

Side effects

Like any medicine, Bricanil may cause side effects. Some of them can be serious, so if they occur, you should consult a doctor immediately. Side effects may include anxiety, insomnia, headache, dizziness, tremor, sweating, hyperreflexia, weakness, mydriasis, tachycardia, cardiac arrhythmias, hyper- or hypotension, nausea, heartburn, vomiting, bad taste in the mouth, bladder atony and allergic reactions.

Interaction

Bricanil may increase the activity of other adrenergic agonists and the likelihood of side effects of antidepressants (tricyclics and MAO inhibitors). Adrenergic blockers, especially beta-adrenolytics, may reduce the effectiveness of Bricanil. It is also not recommended to take Bricanil together with other bronchodilators, as this may increase their effect and increase the risk of side effects.

special instructions

Before you start taking Bricanil, you must consult your doctor and inform about all your existing diseases and medications you are taking. Bricanil should be taken only as prescribed by a doctor and strictly in accordance with the instructions for use. If side effects occur, you should consult a doctor immediately. It is also important to remember that Bricanil is not a medicine for the treatment of asthma attacks and does not replace metered-dose inhalers with short-acting beta-agonists.
