Cantemnol

Cantemnol: application, side effects and features

Cantemnol is a drug belonging to the group of mood stabilizers containing lithium. The drug is manufactured by Slovakpharma in Slovakia. It is available in tablet form containing 500 mg of lithium carbonate. Cantemnol is used to treat the manic phase of bipolar psychosis, prevent exacerbations of manic-depressive psychosis, aggressiveness in psychopathy and chronic alcoholism, addiction to psychotropic drugs, sexual deviations, Meniere's syndrome and migraine.

Cantemnol is synonymous with such drugs as Quilonum retard, Contemnol, Lithium carbonate, Litosan-SR, Micalit, Sedalit. The active substance of the drug is lithium carbonate.

Like any other drug, Cantemnol has its contraindications and side effects. Contraindications to the use of Cantemnol include hypersensitivity to the drug, severe kidney and/or liver disease, severe cardiovascular disease, pregnancy and lactation.

Side effects of Cantemnol may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, cardiac arrhythmias, inhibition of hematopoiesis, thyroid activity, moderate polyuria, kidney dysfunction, mild hand tremors, drowsiness, alopecia and acne.

In addition, Cantemnol may interact with other medications. For example, it is not recommended to combine it with diuretics. NSAIDs slow down the excretion of lithium. When prescribed simultaneously with antipsychotics and antidepressants, an increase in body weight is possible, and with antipyretics and laxatives - an increase in fluid loss and a decrease in tolerance.

Cantemnol can cause an overdose. Symptoms of overdose may include speech impairment, hyperreflexia, tonic and epileptic seizures, oliguria, loss of consciousness, collapse and coma. Treatment of an overdose of Cantemnol is symptomatic.

Before starting treatment with Cantemnol, it is necessary to determine creatinine clearance and the amount of residual nitrogen, conduct an ECG analysis and a general blood test with determination of ESR. Lithium blood levels should then be regularly monitored 12 hours after the first dose and then 2-3 days after each dose change. The level of lithium in the blood should not exceed 1.2 mmol/l.

Cantemnol should only be taken under medical supervision and in strict compliance with the recommended dosages. It is not recommended to change the dosage or stop taking the drug without consulting your doctor.

Overall, Cantemnol is an effective drug for the treatment of manic-depressive psychosis and other mental disorders, but its use should be limited to qualified professionals due to potential side effects and interactions with other medications.
