Cardivas: a drug for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases

Cardivas (international name - Carvedilol) is a pharmacological drug used to treat arterial hypertension, angina pectoris and chronic heart failure. It belongs to the group of alpha and beta adrenergic blockers. The drug is manufactured by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. in Indonesia and India.

Cardivas is available as film-coated tablets in strengths of 6.25 mg, 12.5 mg and 25 mg. The active substance is carvedilol. The drug has a complex effect on the body, lowering blood pressure, reducing the load on the heart and improving its function.

Despite the effectiveness of the drug, its use has a number of contraindications and side effects. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, decompensated heart failure, severe bradycardia, AV block II-III degree, sinoatrial block, sick sinus syndrome, shock, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, bronchial asthma, severe liver damage, pregnancy, lactation, children and adolescence (up to 18 years).

Possible side effects of Cardivas may include dizziness, headache, weakness, syncope, depression, sleep disorders, paresthesia, bradycardia, impaired AV conduction, postural hypertension, edema, worsening peripheral circulation, progression of heart failure, acute renal failure, nausea, pain in abdomen, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, nasal congestion, bronchospastic reactions, pain in the extremities, xerophthalmia, increased levels of transaminases in the blood, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, hyperglycemia, weight gain, allergic skin rashes.

The interaction of the drug with other drugs also requires special attention. Cardivas may slow AV conduction when used in combination with cardiac glycosides or diltiazem. It also increases serum digoxin levels. Anesthetics enhance the negative inotropic and hypotensive effects of carvedilol. Diuretics may enhance the hypotensive effect of the drug. Cardivas may also enhance the effects of insulin and hypoglycemic agents when used together.

Before starting to use Cardivas, you should consult your doctor and follow his recommendations. The drug should be taken in accordance with the instructions, adhering to the recommended dosage and regimen.
