Cephazid (international name - ceftazidime) is a representative of the group of third generation cephalosporins. This antibiotic is manufactured in India by Bayokem Pharmaceutical Industries and is used to treat various infectious diseases.
The dosage form of cefazide is lyophilized powder for the preparation of an injection solution. The active substance is ceftazidime.
Cefazid is used to treat infectious diseases of the lower respiratory tract, skin and soft tissues, urinary tract, bones and joints, abdominal cavity, central nervous system, septicemia, sepsis, endometritis and pelvioperitonitis.
However, before using cefazide, a number of contraindications must be taken into account. In particular, the use of cefazide is prohibited in case of hypersensitivity to other beta-lactam antibiotics, as well as during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Side effects when using cefazide may include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, epigastric pain, increased concentrations of liver enzymes in the blood, leukopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, lymphocytosis, hemolytic anemia, candidomycosis, allergic manifestations (skin rashes , itching, toxic epidermal necrosis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, erythema multiforme, angioedema, anaphylactic shock), as well as reactions at the injection site (formation of infiltrates and abscesses, phlebitis and thrombophlebitis).
When using cefazide, it is necessary to take into account its interaction with other drugs. For example, chloramphenicol may reduce the effectiveness of cefazide, and aminoglycoside antibiotics and furosemide may increase its nephrotoxicity.
In case of an overdose of cefazide, headache, dizziness, paresthesia, and in severe cases, generalized convulsions may occur. Treatment in such cases consists of maintaining vital functions and, if necessary, using anticonvulsants. In patients with impaired renal function, hemodialysis may be required.
Some special instructions to keep in mind when using cefazide include that it should only be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if absolutely necessary and under the supervision of a physician. You should also be careful when using cefazide in patients with impaired renal, hepatic and hematopoietic function, as well as in patients with an allergic reaction to penicillins.
Cefazid is a prescription drug and should only be used as directed by a physician. The dosage and duration of treatment are determined individually, depending on the type and severity of the infection, age and condition of the patient.
Despite the effectiveness of cefazide in treating infections, its use may be accompanied by some side effects and complications. Therefore, it is important to strictly follow your doctor’s recommendations and not exceed the recommended dose. If a patient experiences any unwanted effects while taking cefazide, they should consult a doctor immediately.
