Subarachnoid tank

The subarachnoid cistern (Cisterna subarachnoidalis) is an anatomical formation that is located between the dura mater and the arachnoid membrane of the brain. It is part of the cerebrospinal fluid system, which circulates cerebrospinal fluid in and around the brain.

The subarachnoid cistern has the shape of a glass or funnel and is located in the back of the brain, outside the cerebellum. It communicates with the subarachnoid space, which is located inside the dura mater. The cistern has several openings through which cerebrospinal fluid can freely flow out of it into the subarachnoid space.

The functions of the subarachnoid tank include:

  1. Ensuring the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid, which protects the brain and spinal cord from damage and infection.
  2. Participation in the regulation of intracranial pressure, which is regulated through the subarachnoid spaces.
  3. Participation in the metabolism and metabolism of the brain through the cerebrospinal fluid.
  4. Protecting the brain from injury and damage that may occur from a blow or other head injury.

However, in some people the cistern may become abnormally enlarged or dilated, which can lead to increased intracranial pressure and other health problems. In such cases, treatment and control of the condition may be necessary.

In general, the subarachnoid cistern is an important element of the cerebrospinal fluid circulation system of the brain and plays an important role in maintaining the health of the brain and the entire body.
