Toxic dysentery is an acute intestinal infection accompanied by severe dyspeptic symptoms and symptoms of intoxication. It manifests itself in the form of acute pain along the colon (the urge to defecate).
Dysentery is often complicated by colitis or enterocolitis with a predominance of endotoxemia syndrome, manifested by an increase in general body temperature, the appearance of symptoms of depression, and increased pulse rate. Patients with toxic dysentery lie in bed, their skin and mucous membranes are pale, dry lips, sharpening of facial features, and loss of body weight are noted.
