What is ED50?
ED50 is the dose (concentration of a substance) at which the effect is minimal or completely absent. The concept was introduced in the 1940s by von Hoffmann. This is the dose/effect ratio. Also called the median or 50% effective dose. If you plot the data on graphs, a higher percentage of variants will be on the lower dose side. The median is the value that falls in the middle between the upper and lower values of the sample. Therefore, the average may not be meaningful in some cases where the sample is highly heterogeneous.
