Aescin

Escin is a herbal medicine used to treat vein diseases, varicose veins, injuries and sports injuries. It consists of the active substance escin, which is obtained from horse chestnut seeds.

Escin belongs to the group of angioprotectors, which means its ability to prevent the development of complications after injuries or operations. This drug has anti-edematous, anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative and hemostatic effects.

Indications for the use of escin are the following conditions:

- post-traumatic and postoperative cerebral edema; - haemorrhoids; - inflammation of the veins, including varicose veins; - injuries, sports injuries and sports weaknesses; - treatment of injuries resulting from accidents; - postoperative and surgical treatment of edema and bleeding.

However, escin has contraindications, so before starting therapy it is necessary to undergo a full examination and consult with a specialist. These include:

1. Hypersensitivity to escin or its components; 2. Impaired kidney function and tendency to thrombosis; 3. The period of pregnancy in the first trimester and breastfeeding; 4. Children under 3 years of age and hypersensitivity to the active substance; 5. Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (deficiency of an enzyme involved in the metabolism of esculin, the vasoactive component of escin).

Possible side effects may include fever, nausea, allergic reactions, which often manifest as skin rashes, urticaria and angioedema. Rarely, however, an anaphylactic reaction may develop, which manifests itself in the form of difficulty breathing, conjunctivitis
