Fenazid

Fenazid, the active ingredient in Fetazolam® contra, is a tricyclic benzothiazine derivative used alone for the treatment of active tuberculosis. It is derived from benzimidazoline hydrochloride; has antituberculosis activity comparable or superior to isoniazid, but is better tolerated. In modern practice, phenazide is usually used in the form of metamyl ester, i.e., the ester in the hydrochloride, dimesifane (symptomatic treatment of respiratory and ataxic conditions supporting pulmonary disease), which is a tricyclic drug of the ester group.
