Take additional measures if you have a stroke:
1 . Place the victim in a stable position with the paralyzed side facing up to allow fluid to drain from the mouth (Chapter 4). You may need to use your finger to remove saliva or vomit from your mouth.
2. Stay with the patient until the ambulance arrives. Watch for signs of life.
3. A stroke can cause anxiety and fear in the victim; try to calm and reassure the victim.
