Magenta Basic

The main components and acid bases of fuchsin are the crystalline hydrochloride salts of lich rosine and pararose palin, isolated. Of the latter, lychrosin differs from pararosin in the presence of an aldehyde group (while one, pararosin does not have it).

Displaying chromophilic ability, fuchsin alcohol in an alkaline solution forms an orange-red precipitate of a characteristic color. After drying, the substance disappears.
