Gepasol A: description, application and side effects

Gepasol A is a combined parenteral nutrition product produced in Yugoslavia by the company Hemofarm D.D. Presented in the form of a solution for infusion, Hepasol A contains active ingredients such as L-arginine, L-malic acid, sorbitol, sodium, potassium, chlorine, asparagine, riboflavin, nicotinamide, D-panthenol and pyridoxine.

Indications for use

Hepasol A is used in the treatment of various liver diseases, such as acute and chronic hepatitis, hepatic coma and precoma, liver cirrhosis, hepatic encephalopathy, as well as for the treatment of bleeding from the veins of the esophagus, increased levels of ammonia in the blood after massive tissue damage (for example, burns ) and the postoperative period after portocaval anastomosis.

Contraindications

Gepasol A is not recommended for hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, acute and chronic renal failure, heart failure, hemophilia and terminal ileitis.

Side effects

When using Gepasol A, some side effects may occur, including nausea, vomiting, fatigue, increased sweating, increased body temperature, cyanosis, hypotension, tachycardia and allergic reactions.

Interaction

The simultaneous use of arginine with thiazide diuretics and aminophylline increases the level of insulin in the blood. Estrogens and oral contraceptives may cause an increase in growth hormone levels caused by arginine and attenuate the glucagon and insulin response to arginine. Concomitant use of arginine with spironolactone causes severe hyperkalemia. Arginine is incompatible with sodium thiopental. Isoniazid, penicillamine, and oral contraceptives reduce the metabolism and bioavailability of pyridoxine. Riboflavin is incompatible with streptomycin and weakens the effect of doxycycline, tetracycline, oxytetracycline, erythromycin and lincomycin.

Overdose

There is no data on an overdose of Hepasol A, but during the use of the drug it is necessary to monitor the level of potassium in the blood.

Conclusion

Gepasol A is a combination parenteral nutrition agent used to treat various liver diseases and other conditions associated with tissue damage and increased blood ammonia levels. This drug contains several active ingredients that may cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, increased sweating, and allergic reactions. When using Hepasol A, monitoring the level of potassium in the blood is necessary. Before starting treatment with Gepasol A, you must consult your doctor and follow his recommendations.
