Gialo

Gialo, as well as gial, is a collective name denoting the glassy substance in the eye and other human organs; in insects, chitin (in particular, hairs). The term "hyalo" comes from ancient Greek. ὕαλον - water. Synonyms: sclerum. The name "hyal" is accepted as a synonym for the vitreous body of the eye and chitin in other organs, using the word as a definition or to indicate a certain "sticky liquid". The origin of the term is associated with the Greek word ὑαλός - aqueous, that is, “visible as on water,” as this substance is called.
