Hyoscyamine Sulfate

Hyoscyamine sulfate belongs to the group of m-anticholinergics. Its international name is hyoscyamine base. Also known synonymously as hyoscyamine camphorate.

Hyoscyamine sulfate blocks muscarinic receptors, interfering with the action of acetylcholine. This leads to a decrease in the secretion of glands, relaxation of smooth muscles and a decrease in the tone of the smooth muscles of the internal organs.

Hyoscyamine sulfate preparations are used as antispasmodics for spastic conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, and urinary tract. They are also used for preoperative preparation and in complex therapy of gastric and duodenal ulcers.

Hyoscyamine sulfate has side effects such as dry mouth, accommodation disturbances, and tachycardia. The drug is contraindicated for angle-closure glaucoma, prostate adenoma, myasthenia gravis.
