Gusynin's operation
Gusynin operation is a surgical operation developed and first used by the Soviet surgeon V.A. Gusynin in the 1930s.
This operation is used to treat varicose veins of the esophagus and stomach. The essence of the operation is to ligate the dilated veins in the cardia (the junction of the esophagus into the stomach) and then cross them. This leads to the cessation of blood flow through dilated veins and the elimination of varicose veins.
Gusynin's operation was developed as an alternative to previously used palliative methods for treating varicose veins of the esophagus and stomach, such as cauterization or sclerotherapy of veins. In contrast to these methods, Gusynina's operation allows you to radically cure the disease by cutting the dilated veins.
Over many years, Gusynin's operation has established itself as an effective and relatively safe method of treating varicose veins of the esophagus and stomach. It is still widely used in surgical practice. The name of the Soviet surgeon V.A. Gusynin is forever inscribed in the history of medicine thanks to the development of this unique operation.
