Harshak operation is one of the types of surgical intervention in the field of otorhinolaryngology, which was developed by the Soviet otorhinolaryngologist Mikhail Yakovlevich Kharshak (1871–1940) and became known as the Harshak operation. This is an effective and reliable method of treating common diseases of the ENT organs, such as chronic purulent otitis, facial paralysis and others.
History of creation The Harshak operation was created in the 20s of the 20th century, when patients experienced the spread of purulent inflammation into the inner ear and auditory nerve caused by infection. At that
Harshaka is an operation, a method of surgical intervention for diseases of the ENT organs and sinuses using high doses of air entering the nasal cavity. The method was invented by Kharshak, a Soviet otolaryngologist, surgeon, scientist in the field of otorhinolaryngology, author of books and monographs on the problems of larynx pathology and larynx. But despite its great scientific and practical significance, the method was not widespread throughout Russia and began to be used only in the mid-90s, when the world was faced with a new threat that posed new challenges for surgeons. Since infected patients began to appear not only in homes, but also in offices, on the streets, in public transport, etc., the problem of treating sinusitis has become much more urgent than before.
Harshka is a fairly young method. Its history is associated with the name of Kharshaka Shmarionosovich Shatsky, who organized a surgical ENT department on the basis of the 7th Clinical Hospital in Moscow. Then, during the Soviet Union, the number of patients with purulent-inflammatory diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses increased sharply due to the negative consequences of the restructuring of society in the 30s. Gradually, in all CIS countries, the need arose to use modern treatment methods that could reduce the length of inpatient hospitalization, and therefore reduce the burden on healthcare. The work of surgeons was based on conservative and general surgical methods, after which in those years 60% of patients experienced complications of the disease. Harshacha operation of the 4th degree is a purely individual and risky type of surgical treatment for the patient. It is performed under general or local anesthesia. This type of surgery is not recommended as an independent treatment method, as it has a high risk of complications after it. Used as a one-step operation. Using an external or transmaxillary approach, a median osteotomy is performed with a shift of the sphenoid sinuses to the right. The scope of the operation is as follows: removal of foci of inflammation, polyps, adenoids, recurrent concha cribriformis
