Hernia Femoral

A herniated femur, or femoral hernia, is a congenital condition that is characterized by a protrusion of muscle, ligament, or fat through the femoral canal under the skin next to the hip. This can cause pain, limited movement, and discomfort in the area. In this article we will look at the causes, symptoms, treatment and prognosis of this disease.

A hernia of the femur is one of the most common diseases of the musculoskeletal system, which is associated with the protrusion of individual sections of muscle and tendon bundles through the tendon aponeurosis and the periosteal layer covering them. This protrusion is formed as a result of a violation of the integrity of the tendons or muscles of the thigh, the so-called “femoral tendinosis”. One of the risk factors is the patient’s advanced age, since the risk of this pathology increases from the age of 50, and in adult men aged 30 to 60 years, a hernia occurs 2 times more often than in women. The most common location for a hernia is the groin area, where the inguinal canal is located, through which the spermatic cord in men and the round ligament of the uterus in women emerge. Hernias of other localization lead to the same area. With further loss of internal organs, a wide or narrow palpable abdomen appears due to displacement of the organs. An inguinal hernia always forms at the level of the peritoneum and is characterized by a large, more than 5 cm, sac-like formation, the contents of which fall out through the dilated openings of the inguinal canal. Inguinal hernias are often accompanied by appendicitis, varicose veins, and constipation. A different clinical picture is observed with strangulated hernias, when there is no independent reduction of the hernial sac, the contents of the hernia are not reduced by the doctor’s hands when attempting to manipulate it; There is severe pain in the hernia, which gets worse when walking. Strangulated hernias are subject to immediate surgical intervention! In typical cases, clinical complications due to hernias of the femur do not occur.
