Indopan

Indopan: description, indications for use and side effects

Indopan (international name - indomethacin) is an anti-inflammatory drug, a derivative of indoleacetic acid, which is widely used to treat rheumatic diseases and pain. Indopan is produced in India by Panacea Biotek and is presented in the form of 25 mg capsules.

Indications for use

Indopan is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, tendinitis, synovitis, acute gouty arthritis and reactive arthritis.

Contraindications

Indopan is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to indomethacin, rhinitis, conjunctivitis or bronchospasm while taking NSAIDs, erosive and ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, bleeding (especially intracranial or from the gastrointestinal tract), thrombocytopenia, hypocoagulation, suspected necrotizing enterocolitis, severe renal failure, congenital heart defects (tetrad Fallot, pulmonary atresia), proctitis (suppositories) and pregnancy (teratogenicity may occur).

Side effects

Indopan can cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, erosive and ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, gastrointestinal bleeding, rectal bleeding, toxic hepatitis, constipation, arterial hypertension, heart rhythm disturbances, bone marrow hypoplasia, aplastic anemia, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, platelet dysfunction, fluid retention, hyperglycemia, glycosuria, hyperkalemia, pruritus, urticaria, exfoliative dermatitis, hair loss, erythema nodosum, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, anaphylactic shock, bronchospasm, vasculitis and pulmonary edema.

Interaction

Indopan reduces the diuretic effect of potassium-sparing, thiazide and loop diuretics, and hypotension caused by beta-blockers. It also increases (mutually) the risk of side effects (primarily gastrointestinal damage) from other NSAIDs. Indopan increases the toxicity of methotrexate (reduces its tubular secretion), xanthine derivatives and cyclosporine. In addition, it can enhance the effect of anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents and glucocorticosteroids.

Dosage and method of administration

The dosage of indopan should be individualized and determined depending on the severity of the disease and the patient's response to treatment. It is usually recommended to start with a dose of 50-75 mg per day, which can be gradually increased to 200 mg per day, divided into several doses. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 200 mg.

Conclusion

Indopan is an anti-inflammatory drug that is widely used to treat rheumatic diseases and pain. However, its use may cause side effects, so before starting treatment you must consult your doctor and strictly follow the dosage and recommendations for use.
