Intralipid 30%: fat emulsion for parenteral nutrition

Intralipid 30% is a pharmaceutical preparation that is a fat emulsion for parenteral nutrition. Produced in Sweden by Pharmacia. The drug contains fractionated soybean oil, fractionated egg phospholipids, glycerin and water for injection. Intralipid 30% is used to treat various diseases such as diseases of the digestive tract, unconsciousness, preoperative fasting lasting more than 3 days, extensive burns and severe infectious diseases.

Contraindications to the use of Intralipid 30% are shock at the initial stage and severe lipid metabolism disorders. When using the drug, side effects may occur, such as fever, chills, nausea and vomiting.

Intralipid 30% should be used with caution in patients with renal failure, decompensated diabetes mellitus, pancreatitis, liver dysfunction, hypothyroidism and sepsis. Careful monitoring of serum triglyceride levels is also necessary. When using the drug in patients with an allergy to soy protein, it is necessary to conduct allergy tests.

When prescribing Intralipid 30% to premature infants with hyperbilirubinemia and newborns, as well as when pulmonary hypertension is suspected, monitoring of platelet counts, liver tests and serum triglyceride concentrations is necessary.
