Isodinite: description, use, side effects and contraindications

Izodinit (isosorbide dinitrate) is a drug from the group of antianginal drugs intended for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. This drug is produced by Farmakhim in Bulgaria and is widely used in medical practice around the world.

Dosage form and composition

Isodinite is presented in the form of lozenges, retard tablets and tablets in a dosage of 10 mg. The active substance is isosorbide dinitrate, which belongs to the group of nitrates and nitrites.

Indications for use

Isodinite is used to treat the following diseases:

  1. angina pectoris (relief and prevention of attacks)
  2. acute myocardial infarction
  3. acute left ventricular failure
  4. hypertension
  5. congestive heart failure

Dosage and method of administration

The dosage of the drug depends on the form of release and the severity of the disease. Isodinite is usually taken orally in a dosage of 5 to 60 mg per day, depending on the individual characteristics of the patient.

Side effects

When using isodinite, the following side effects may occur:

  1. rush of blood to the face and neck
  2. headache
  3. nausea
  4. vomit
  5. orthostatic hypotension
  6. motor restlessness
  7. tachycardia

Interaction with other drugs

Izodinit is not recommended to be taken simultaneously with antihypertensive drugs (calcium antagonists, other vasodilators), tricyclic antidepressants and alcohol, as this can lead to increased hypotensive effects. Sympathomimetics, on the contrary, reduce the antianginal effect of the drug.

Contraindications

Izodinit is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to isosorbide dinitrate or other components of the drug, anemia, cerebral hemorrhages or recent head trauma, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, hypotension, pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding must be suspended), as well as in children under 18 years of age.

Overdose

In case of an overdose of isodinite, the following symptoms may appear: cyanosis of the lips and nails, severe dizziness or fainting, a feeling of pressure in the head, weakness, shortness of breath, weak and rapid heartbeat, increased body temperature. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention.
