Kanamycin acid sulfate (Kanamycin) is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that is used to treat various infections. The drug is produced in China by Lua Cheng Factory, a branch of Hua Bai Pharmaceutical Factory.
Kanamycin is widely used in medicine to treat infections such as sepsis, meningitis, peritonitis, septic endocarditis, pneumonia, lung abscess, pleural empyema, kidney and urinary tract infections, and tuberculosis in combination with other anti-tuberculosis drugs.
Kanamycin is contained in the form of a substance, and its active substance is kanamycin. The drug has several synonyms, including Kanamycin monosulfate, Kanamycin-Akos and Kanamycin sulfate.
Despite the effectiveness of the drug, it has a number of contraindications and restrictions for use. Thus, it cannot be used for hypersensitivity, inflammation of the auditory nerve, impaired liver and kidney function, and intestinal obstruction. Kanamycin is also contraindicated during pregnancy and in newborns in the first month of life.
When using Kanamycin, side effects may occur, such as nausea, vomiting, loose stools, acoustic neuritis, neuromuscular blockade, paresthesia, liver dysfunction, cylindruria, microhematuria and albuminuria.
Despite the fact that there is no data on the interaction of Kanamycin with other drugs, it is recommended to refrain from its simultaneous use with other aminoglycosides.
In general, Kanamycin is an effective antibiotic for the treatment of infections, but its use should only be carried out as prescribed by a doctor and taking into account all possible contraindications and side effects.
