Cardil (Dilzem): Calcium channel blocker for the cardiovascular system

Cardil (Dilzem) is a pharmacological drug belonging to the group of benzodiazepine calcium channel blockers. It is widely used to treat various cardiovascular diseases. The drug is manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Orion Corporation in Finland and has the international name Diltiazem.

Cardil (Dilzem) is indicated in the following cases: treatment of angina pectoris, prevention of coronary spasm during coronary angiography or coronary artery bypass surgery, arterial hypertension (especially in patients with concomitant angina pectoris, when beta-blockers are contraindicated), as well as in patients with diabetic nephropathy (when inhibitors are contraindicated angiotensin-converting enzyme). The drug can also be used to relieve paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia when administered intravenously. In the field of transplantation, it is used to prevent graft failure after kidney transplantation and to reduce the nephrotoxicity of cyclosporine A during immunosuppressive therapy.

However, there are a number of contraindications to the use of Cardil (Dilzema). It is not recommended for hypersensitivity to the drug, cardiogenic shock, left ventricular systolic dysfunction, sinus bradycardia, sick sinus syndrome, sinoatrial and AV block II-III degree, severe aortic stenosis, as well as in the presence of Wolff-Parconson-White syndrome and Launa-Ganong-Levin with paroxysms of atrial fibrillation or flutter, impaired liver and kidney function, in childhood, pregnancy and lactation.

Cardil (Dilzem) may cause some side effects, including transient hypotension, bradycardia, stage I conduction disturbance, decreased cardiac output, palpitations, fainting, eosinophilia, headache, dizziness, weakness, feeling of fatigue, peripheral edema, impaired potency, dyspeptic symptoms , hyperplasia of the gum mucosa, sweating, redness of the skin, allergic reactions (skin rash and itching), exudation from vascular capillaries and increased activity of liver enzymes.
