Cardura

Cardura is a drug from the group of selective alpha1-blockers, which is used to treat arterial hypertension, chronic heart failure, benign prostatic hyperplasia and other diseases.

Manufacturers of Cardura are Pfizer in the United States of America and Germany. The international name of the drug is doxazosin. Cardura is also known under such synonyms as Artesin, Doxazosin-Vero, Doxaprostan, Zoxon, Kamiren, Cardura HL, Cardura, Magurol and Tonocardin. Cardura dosage forms include 1mg tablets, 2mg tablets, 4mg tablets and 8mg tablets.

The active substance of Cardura is doxazosin. The drug acts by reducing the resistance of peripheral blood vessels, which leads to a decrease in blood pressure and improved blood supply to organs and tissues.

Cardura is widely used for the treatment of hypertension, including isolated systolic hypertension in elderly men, hypertension due to metabolic disorders, chronic heart failure, pheochromocytoma, benign prostatic hyperplasia and obstructed urinary outflow.

Cardura is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the drug, stenosis of the aortic and mitral valves, pulmonary embolism, severe liver dysfunction, pregnancy and childhood.

Taking Cardura may be accompanied by side effects, such as dizziness, syncope, postural orthostatic hypotension, nervousness, irritability, pathological drowsiness, edema, tachycardia, rhythm disturbances, fatigue, shortness of breath, headache, blurred vision, rhinitis, xerostomia, abdominal discomfort , nausea, constipation, chest pain, cerebrovascular accident and urinary incontinence.

Cardura may interact with other drugs, enhancing the hypotensive effect of antihypertensive drugs and interacting with inducers and inhibitors of microsomal oxidation in the liver.

In case of Cardura overdose, the patient may develop hypotension and syncope. Treatment of overdose consists of symptomatic therapy, including maintenance of blood pressure and cardiovascular function.
