Ketoconazole-FPO: Antifungal agent for effective control of mycoses

Ketoconazole-FPO is an antifungal agent produced in Russia. It belongs to the pharmacological group of imidazole and triazole derivatives and has the international name "ketoconazole". The drug is available in the form of tablets containing 200 mg of the active substance - ketoconazole.

Ketoconazole-FPO is effective in the treatment of various mycoses caused by dermatophytes and/or yeasts. It is used for mycoses of the skin, hair and nails, such as dermatophytosis, onychomycosis, candidal paronychia, pityriasis versicolor, folliculitis and trichophytosis. The drug is also used to treat gastrointestinal mycoses, ocular mycoses, systemic mycoses (for example, candidiasis, paracoccidioidomycosis, histoplasmosis, coccidioidomycosis and blastomycosis), cutaneous leishmaniasis, seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, fungal sepsis and vaginal candidiasis. In addition, the drug can be used to prevent mycoses in patients with immunodeficiency.

Despite the effectiveness of Ketoconazole-FPO, it has some contraindications. The drug is not recommended in case of hypersensitivity to its components, as well as in acute liver diseases, pregnancy and lactation. You should also limit its use in case of decreased function of the adrenal cortex and pituitary gland, as well as in severe renal and liver failure.

Side effects may occur when using Ketoconazole-FPO. Some of them include headache, dizziness, drowsiness, hair loss, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, toxic hepatitis, temporary increase in blood transaminase levels, photophobia, gynecomastia, decreased libido, oligospermia and allergic reactions such as urticaria, itching, arthralgia , paresthesia and hyperthermia.

The interaction of Ketoconazole-FPO with other drugs should also be taken into account. It is incompatible with terfenadine, astemizole and alcohol. The effect of amphotericin B may be weakened when used simultaneously with Ketoconazole-FPO. Antacids, anticholinergics and H2-blockers significantly reduce the absorption of the drug, and rifampicin and isoniazid can increase its concentration in the blood.

The dosage of Ketoconazole-FPO and the duration of treatment depend on the type and severity of the infection. Usually the drug is taken once a day orally after meals. The recommended starting dose for most infections is 200 mg (1 tablet) for 2-4 weeks. In some cases, the dose may be increased to 400 mg per day. For systemic mycoses or mycoses with severe course, the duration of treatment can be extended to several months.

It is important to consult with your doctor before starting treatment with Ketoconazole-FPO. The doctor will assess the patient’s health status, take into account the specific contraindications and decide whether the drug is suitable for a particular case.

In addition to treating mycoses, it is important to maintain hygiene and take measures to prevent relapses. This includes regularly washing and drying your skin, wearing clean and dry shoes, maintaining good personal hygiene and avoiding contact with fungal infections.

In any case, to obtain accurate information about the dosage, dosage regimen and possible side effects of Ketoconazole-FPO, you should consult a medical specialist or pharmacist.
