Koffi-Antelava Operation

Coffey-Antelava operation is a surgical operation to restore the patency of the ureters using intestinal loops. Named after two surgeons who contributed to its development - American surgeon Robert Coffey (1869-1933) and Soviet surgeon Nikolai Antelava (1893-1970).

The operation is used for ureteral strictures, when their patency is impaired as a result of narrowing of the lumen. During the operation, the affected area of the ureter is replaced with a section of the small or large intestine, which performs the function of transporting urine from the kidney to the bladder.

The Coffey-Antelava technique allows you to restore normal urine flow from the kidneys with minimal risk of complications. The operation is still widely used in urological practice.
