Pancreatic colic

Pancreatic colic

Pancreatic colic is an acute paroxysmal pain syndrome associated with inflammation of the pancreas tissue. This term was first introduced in 1937. Clinically, colic manifests itself as painful attacks that can be quite severe and lead to panic and distress in the patient. The pain is most often localized in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen and can radiate to the back or under the right shoulder blade. Treatment for pancreatic colic depends on the cause and may include medication, nutritional therapy, and surgery.
