Skin the Sailor

Article "Sailor's Skin"

Many of us, even those who have never gone to sea, have heard about this mysterious concept - “sailor’s skin”. This phenomenon is closely related to the professional activities of seafarers and provides them with protection and comfort during sea voyages. But why is this skin so important to sailors?

First of all, “sailor’s skin” is a collection of anatomical structures located on the neck that protect against the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation, sea water, wind and other weather phenomena.

This skin protects against harmful environmental influences, be it the sun's rays or immersion in icy water. It is dark enough in color to help absorb heat from sunlight. The skin on a sailor's neck also has pores that help with ventilation and cooling. In addition, it is very durable and elastic, which allows it to withstand severe physical stress.

The skin of a sailor's neck contains a huge amount of collagen, which is the main protein of the skin. This protein has the ability to constantly renew itself. Thanks to this, the skin of sailors is never dry and rough, but remains smooth and soft.

In addition, the skin on the neck of sailors has a diamond-shaped structure, which allows it to better stretch and contract when turning the head. It is thanks to this feature that the structure of the skin of sailors’ necks remains unchanged even in extreme conditions.

Another distinctive feature of seafarers' neck skin is its resistance to fungal infections. This is thought to be due to the presence of bacteria in the skin, such as Staphylococcus aureus. Bacteria inhibit the growth of fungal microorganisms
