Xanidil: Antispasmodic agent for the treatment of vascular diseases

Xanidil (international name: Xanthinol nicotinate) is a pharmacological drug belonging to the group of purine-derived antispasmodics. It is widely used to treat various vascular diseases. The drug is manufactured by Spofa Praha in the Czech Republic and is available in the form of tablets with a dosage of 150 mg.

Xanidil has the following synonyms: Complamin, Xavin, Xanthinol nicotinate, Teonicol. Its main active ingredient, Xanthinol nicotinate, has antispasmodic properties, promoting vasodilation and improving blood circulation.

The drug is used to treat various conditions, including cerebrovascular insufficiency, cerebral vascular atherosclerosis, cerebrovascular accidents, obliterating atherosclerosis of the vessels of the lower extremities, Raynaud's disease, Buerger's disease, obliterating endarteritis, acute arterial thrombosis, diabetic angiopathy, retinopathy, acute thrombophlebitis, postthrombophlebitis syndrome, trophic ulcers of the lower extremities, bedsores, migraines, Meniere's syndrome, dermatoses, atherosclerosis of the coronary vessels, hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, intrauterine and postpartum fetal asphyxia.

However, the drug has contraindications. Xanidil is not recommended for hypersensitivity to its components, severe congestive heart failure, acute gastric and duodenal ulcers in the acute stage. There are also restrictions for use in patients with arterial hypotension and pregnant women, especially in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Xanidil may cause some side effects, including hypotension, transient warmth, skin flushing, weakness, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, and gastralgia. With long-term use of high doses of the drug, a decrease in glucose tolerance, an increase in the activity of liver transaminases and alkaline phosphatase, as well as hyperuricemia are possible.

It is important to consider the interaction of Xanidil with other drugs. It may enhance the effects of antihypertensive agents, anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents.

The dosage of Xanidil may vary depending on the indications and individual characteristics of the patient. It is usually recommended to start with a low dose and gradually increase it over the course of treatment.
