Xylene: an effective remedy for the treatment of rhinitis and related diseases

Xylene (international name - xylometazoline) is a pharmaceutical drug that is used to treat acute allergic rhinitis, hay fever, sinusitis, otitis media and to prepare the patient for diagnostic procedures in the nasal passages. It belongs to the group of drugs that stimulate alpha and beta adrenergic receptors.

Xylen is produced in Russia by the pharmaceutical company Lance-Pharm. It is available in the form of nasal drops with two different concentrations of the active substance: 0.05% and 0.1%. The main active substance in the drug is xylometazoline.

The use of Xylene has some contraindications. It is not recommended for hypersensitivity to the drug, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, severe atherosclerosis, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, hyperthyroidism, as well as during pregnancy and lactation.

Some side effects may occur when using Xylene. Frequent or prolonged use may cause irritation of the nasal mucosa, burning, tingling, sneezing, dryness and hypersecretion. Rare side effects include swelling of the nasal mucosa, palpitations, irregular heart rhythm, increased blood pressure, headache, vomiting, sleep disturbances and vision disturbances. With long-term use of high doses of Xylene, depression may occur.

It is important to consider the interaction of Xylene with other drugs. It is incompatible with MAO inhibitors (monoamine oxidase) and tricyclic antidepressants.

In case of an overdose of Xylen, the symptoms may be intensified. Treatment in such cases is symptomatic.

Before using Xylene, please pay attention to special instructions. Xylene nasal aerosol can be used in children under 3 years of age, and nasal drops with an active substance concentration of 1 mg/ml can only be used as prescribed by a doctor in children under 2 years of age. It is not recommended to use the drug for a long time, especially with chronic rhinitis. In case of colds, when crusts form in the nose, it is preferable to use Xylene in the form of a gel.
